It’s always so nice to be a part of someones family journey and capture the special moments. With Jessica I was able to capture both her maternity session and then Pierson’s Fresh 48 session. His fresh 48 was extra special because his big brother Anderson was there to meet him too! Anderson took surprisingly well to meeting Pierson and even better to me being there with my camera. He was such a sweetheart with Pierson, talking with him, holding him and giving him lots of kisses.
It was so nice for Jessica and her family to have me there capturing such a special moment for them so soon after birth. Pierson was just a mere 12 hours old when I arrived. Jessica and I were able to chat about our birth stories and how similar they were – subsequent babies really do come fast!

This was an extra special session for me, because it was for a good friend I’ve grown to know since meeting my husband. Taylor and her family were my husband’s childhood home neighbors and still are so we see them often when visiting my in-laws. We found out we were pregnant just a few months apart and we shared pregnancy woes and insomnia. It’s always great to be able to gift your friends your favorite sessions, and this was perfect for Taylor. It’s always special to be a part of such a special moment with families, but it’s even more when it’s for friends and family. Mackayla was such a doll and had the fullest head of dark hair. I can’t wait to spend summer days at the beach and watching her grow up.
When she arrived it I made it a family affaire and had my boys join me when going to meet her and do her fresh 48 session. Edward was really excited to meet another baby and kept showing Easton the baby that was just like him! Also thankfully Taylor’s parents were there to keep him occupied while I worked, he loves playing with them. Easton on the other hand slept the whole time and was a complete champ again during a session!
Here is me holding both Mackayla and Easton – I love my job!! And thank goodness for this Ergo carrier that’s gotten me though 3 babies and working!

Just a little behind here on getting Josie’s session up on the blog. We shot her session just a week before my own little guy decided to surprise us with an early arrival. Thankfully the weather has warmed up since her snowy session. Josie was joined by her husband and sweet little boy during her session too. He was pretty shy and really wanted nothing to do with being in front of the camera, but I was able to snap a few with all of them together and some on his own. We chatted about how he loved PJ Mask and who his favorite character was. Then Josie and I went and did some images of just her! She was absolutely gorgeous in the sheer Sew Trendy Dress we got just for her session. With the golden sun behind her and the royal blue dress she just shined the whole time.

It was such a pleasure to get to meet Lorelei last month, she was absolutely adorable! I met Katelynn at a special brunch held last year by East End Playdates for moms and moms-to-be. Katelynn entered the raffle to win her very own Fresh 48 session from me and was so excited when she won!
I’ve become quite the regular over at Stony Brook Hospital doing fresh 48’s and I have so many more set to happen in the next few months. They are truly my favorite sessions. When I arrived to meet Lorelei I had my very own assistant, Easton, with me since he was only about 4 weeks old. He was perfect and didn’t make a peep the whole time. He has accompanied me on every shoot since.
Lorelei has the sweetest features and the best head of hair so far in 2018. Mom and dad were totally amazing too, we chatted about so many things during the session. She had the sweetest disposition but really wanted to suck on something the whole time and you will see that in a few of her images below. It was so cute. I even shot some video as a new addition to add onto your fresh 48 packages.

Wow it has taken me a while to get to writing this post. Easton is 5 weeks old and already so different than the Fresh 48 photos I did below. He’s a pretty mellow baby, doing all the normal baby things – eat, sleep, poop and look cute.
Here is his birth story.
I had woken up at 1:30 in the morning feeling something, not quite sure if it was the real deal or just Braxton Hicks again. They were real and I had a hard time getting sleep so I got up and tried walking around the house quietly while everyone else slept. I really just thought it was false labor since I was only 38 weeks and both babies before were late at 40 and 41 weeks. I was able to do that for about 2 hrs until Brendan woke up and asked if I was ok, and I shrugged it of like it was no big deal and said “yeah uh-huh, I’m fine. Go back to sleep!” Then I had a contraction and he asked if it was go time. I calmly said maybe but that he should try to get some rest if it was. That was not happening, he was WIDE awake now. So I labored a little more and took a shower to see if I could get them to slow down or go away and they just became more intense. So we called in the calvary to watch the big kids and called the midwife to see if we should head in.
Around 6 am we headed to the hospital and of course they started to become much more spread out and short once we arrived and got into triage. So they sent us out to walk for a few hours, eat and see if they picked up again. We went to Avalon to walk the stairs and get some fresh air and walk the labyrinth. At this point I knew they had slowed and nearly stopped and was trying to not become discouraged and think about Emily’s 4 day laboring event. We returned to the hospital just to get checked again and no progression had been made so we went home. I had lunch and tried to nap for a bit despite both kids being home.
Around 4 or so contractions began to pick up again and were much more intense. I made the usually monday evening dinner of waffles and eggs and sent emily off to ballet and told her goodbye hoping that maybe we’d be leaving again before she got home. She was disappointed (again) when we were home still with no new baby! At this point contractions had become more WAY more intense and a little more constant so grandma and grandpa headed over for the night and we left for the hospital (again) around 8:30pm. I joked on the way that if we were going to have another Monday baby we only had til midnight to make that happen.
From here they story picks up – quickly! He made his way into the world quite swiftly once he decided he really wanted to come.
Once we get parked and into triage its about 9pm. Contractions are strong but not all that consistent but strong enough I think we should be at the hospital. I get hooked up to the monitors and they watch the heartbeat and my contractions. The midwife comes in and checks me and I’ve progressed from 3 cm to 4 over the course of the day… and they think we should go walk around the hospital and eat something. I break out into tears because I fear that this is going to last much longer like it had with Emily and I’d be going home yet again. So the midwife works on discharging us. All the mean while I’m tired and upset just wanting to sleep since I had been up since 1:30. As the midwife walks back in my water breaks – it’s about 10:30 at this point. She says “Ok well, lets get you admitted and into a room!” Yes! Finally!
About 5 min later contractions start coming very consistently and picking up. I get up to go pee and on the way back I can barely walk. A this point contractions are about 1-2 min apart and soooo painful. I can’t talk and am screaming through the pain. I had never felt contractions like this with my previous two because I had an epidural by the time they were this strong.
By now Brendan is freaking out – he’s never seen me in such pain. He calls in the nurse and midwife. With each contraction I can’t help but bear down and push. Note I’m still in triage waiting to get taken to our room and it been about 20 minuets since my waters broke. They see that I need to get into a delivery room ASAP and rush me into a wheelchair. I can’t talk and contractions are back to back. The nurse is literally running me to my room with the midwife next to me trying to keep me calm.
We get into a room and Brendan helps me on the bed and the midwife wants to check me to see where I’m at, because obviously somethings happening. She lifts my legs and says “Well, there’s the head! Push!” A push and a half later she says “It’s a boy!!!” All the pain is gone and our little guy arrived at 11:01pm. Shear bliss and shock all in one moment. I finally and unexpectedly got the epidural free birth that I wanted to have. But this time it wasn’t by choice…. I didn’t even have the chance to sign my admitting paperwork.
Overall it was a grand finale to our last birth and baby. And as a mom I’ll always remind him of how dramatic he was.
Here are the Fresh 48 shots I did at about 15 hours old. We hired a photographer friend come and take shots of all of us together and the kids meeting Easton for the first time. I can’t wait to see how they look.

Last week I had the pleasure of working with another creative friend for her gorgeous golden hour maternity session. I met Jessica though our local Tuesday’s Together group – where other local creatives get together once a month and chat about different topics and small business types of things. She owns Whimsy B Paperie which offers up these stunning custom invitations – make sure to check out her instagram too for her gorgeous work.
Jessica is expecting her second baby boy this spring and was so excited when she said she wanted to do a session with me! We had originally planned on something beachy but when she saw the golden field self portraits I had done she really wanted to do them there, and it turned out stunning. She rocked one of the dresses from Sew Trendy that I offer to match up with the golden field and beautiful light we had that evening.

6 – Nose Frida
Hope you enjoyed my list, what was your favorite thing for the newborn days? So many new things have hit the market since Edward was born.

Last week I hit 33 weeks in pregnancy and boy am I getting big! With all the cold weather and wind we couldn’t make the previous week work for portraits with the kids. So when we finally had a a good slightly warmer sunny day we made a family maternity session with the kids happen. Of course we ventured over to my favorite field of golden grass to capture the shots. The white dress really popped against the golden tones. This week I had help from the whole crew to get some really great shots, mostly my husband, but the kids each had a turn taking some too. They really enjoy getting to take shots with the “big camera”.
Emily is beyond excited to welcome a new baby and thanks me almost every day that I’m pregnant. Edward on the other hand doesn’t fully grasp the idea that there will be a new baby joining us, only that he wants it to be a little brother when we ask if he thinks it’s a boy or girl. He though has been very very sunggly and attached to me like no other, which is very similar to how Emily was when Edward was set to arrive. We are “Team Green” this time so the guesses are coming in from every one that ask – what’s your guess?!

Today I wanted to show you all about the before and after of retouching and work that goes into each session with me. After we are all done at your session I go home and upload your images to my hard drive and review them. I use a program called Adobe Bridge, this allows me to see everything in one place next to each other and select the best from each burst.
After selecting the best I pull them into another program called Lightroom where I make minor ( sometimes major!) adjustments to the white balance, exposure, and colors. Then I export them ready for work photoshop.
When I open them in photoshop this is where a lot of the work is done. Each image can take anywhere from 5-30 minuets depending on what needs to be done. Usually I don’t do a bunch of editing on images unless they really need it or I have a vision that is to make the image very dramatic. With newborns there is quite a bit of skin to edit and backgrounds to touch-up. With my maternity session I love to make them really dramatic and touching up mommas skin here and there. Below are some examples of where the images begin straight out of camera and the final product. I generally spend about 3-4 hours finishing up a gallery for each session, sometimes even more if the gallery is really large or there are a lot of edits needed.
Check out more info on sessions I offer over on the Investment page – I can’t wait to work with you!

Who doesn’t love a good cocktail; especially one that’s perfect for these cozy evenings in and parties for the new year! I wanted to create something that was warming, simple and versatile. You can even omit the liquor for your expecting friends and it is still equally delicious. I used a local unfiltered pressed apple cider and all fresh ingredients to create this tasty cocktail. I made this for family over the holidays and it was such a huge hit.
- 8 oz. of Cinnamon liquor of your choice (Fireball is a popular choice)
- 1 ½ cup unfiltered apple cider
- 4 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice (about 1-2 lemons)
- 1 Tbsp. honey
- Generous pinch of sea salt
- Sparkling apple cider
Combine all ingredients except sparkling cider in to large shaker or pitcher with ice. Shake until well mixed. Pour over fresh ice to 2/3’s full and top with the sparking cider. Garnish with apple slices and a lemon twist. Sip and enjoy!
