Ada’s Fall Themed 1st Birthday Party – Stony Brook, NY – Jessica Michelle Photo

Ada had her adorable fall themed first birthday party last month at Old Field Club in Stony Brook. Big sister Mable and her were dressed in rose gold and white coordinating outfits that were just the cutest! It was so fun to see how much Ada had grown up since her Fresh 48 session I had done when she was just born, Mabel too! Mom really went all out with the festive pumpkins and fall themed center pieces to the amazingly done cake that looked like a basket of apples. Ada had a great time celebrating her first year of life with all of her wonderful family and friends.

Getting to know Jessica – The girl behind the lens – Long Island Photographer

20 getting to know you questions – some fun little facts about the girl behind the lens

20 getting to know you questions – some fun little facts about the girl behind the lens

I found this 20 Getting to Know You Questions questionnaire over on another photographers blog and thought it was perfect since I am not great at creating about me facts! Usually these are done on Friday’s as #fridayintroductions but I’m posting today so…

let’s get started! Enjoy!

  1. What’s your favorite Christmas movie?
Elf! I mean I watch it year round and can’t think of any other christmas movie that makes me laugh every single time I watch it.
  2. If you could live in any period of history, what would it be?
Defiantly the 50’s – 60’s. I love most things about that time period and if you look at my house you would totally know what I mean. I have almost all vintage furniture in my house and am always listing to the “oldies” station here. I have always loved the music from that time period – it used to be the only thing my mom played in the car – so I know the words to almost every song that comes on.

Us on our honeymoon in Las Vegas
  3. What’s your dream occupation – the one job you’d love to have if you weren’t doing what you’re doing now? I would have to say some type of chef or baker. I love to cook and eat really yummy food. Though in the years since my kids have entered the world I have not been doing it as much aside from the usual meals of the week. Sometimes I like to get fancy and it’s usually well received other times not so much – like my mushroom risotto last week. “MOM why couldn’t you just have left it plain!” I also love food photography and was my main concentration before solely doing babies, kids and families! sweet_pistacho_35
  4.  Describe your first car and what you loved or hated most about it.
I had a 90’s something Pontiac Sunfire – it was white. I saved up for about a year after having my learners permit by working at Target ( which is were my slight obsession began)
  5. What one accomplishment are you most proud of?
Not giving up this year – I can’t tell you how many times I just wanted to close up shop and never shoot another picture again. Moving cross country was HARD on me and my business. But thanks to my supporting husband and family & friends I kept on going and not letting the hard parts of business get me down.
  6.  How do you take your coffee?
Light and sweet so it doesn’t taste much like coffee and I love when summer rolls around because iced is even better for me!
  7. What has been the hardest part about your motherhood journey?
Not being perfect. It’s the hardest thing for me and I focus a lot on the un-perfect parts. Before kids I had ideas about how I would raise kids and for the most part I have stuck to them but life, pregnancy and PPD really like to throw wrenches into that perfect plan.
  8. What has been the best part?
Watching them both grow and learn. Everyday I look and think weren’t you just my tiny little baby that I could just carry around and now they are both wild little minions running around causing all sorts of mayhem. edit2026day152__2jessicamichellephoto_365dayproject
  9. What is something you collected or are still collecting?
There are 2 things I collect – Franciscan Wear (Coronado pattern) and all things Elvis! The Elvis thing kicked off at birth – because we share a birthday and my grandma was a big fan. I have long been collecting Elvis memorabilia since I was a little kid and my grandma gave me an original photograph of Elvis from a concert he did at Ft. Hood in TX. Then she took me to Memphis, TN to visit Graceland. My husband and I collect the Franciscan Wear together after finding a HUGE set at an antique store when we were looking for a dish set for our first place together. And since then we have been collecting pieces as we find them, which has become harder since being on the east coast.

365 day project port jefferson new york long island child photographer friday introductions
First Elvis piece can be seen on the right in silver frame & that is only about 1/2 of our dish collection other half is in boxes for when we need 30 tea cups or ice cream dishes
  10. If you were hosting a dinner party who are the 5 people (alive or dead) you would invite?
Elvis (obviously), Adele, The Beatles, My BFF Brandie & Will Ferrel
  11. What’s your guilty pleasure?
Really bad TV shows like the Kardashians, Botched, My 600 Lb. Life etc etc. I don’t know why but I get sucked in and can’t turn it off!
  12. What’s on your Bucket List?
To travel outside of the US- In my 31 years I have only traveled within the US and dream of going to see so many more places.
  13. What’s on your most played playlist?
Pandora – I don’t have time for playlist… We listen to a lot of Cake radio and Adele radio
  14. Whats your favorite book(series)?
I’m not a big book reader aside from reading to the kids. Usually only business type books or cookbooks. So really I guess I could say my favorite would be “Pure Vanilla” by Shauna Sever  or the one Emily can read all by herself now called “Emily’s Balloon”
  15. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
San Francisco – not going to lie, I REALLY miss it. SF/Marin was such a great space for us but sadly the cost to live and survive there just wasn’t possible. I thrive on the busyness of the city and the constant change and urban setting.

    IMG_2788
Taken on the way to the hospital in labor with Emily
  16. Are there things that you sometimes don’t understand, but pretend you do?
Politics – I just can’t keep up. I know its important to know but it stresses me out so much.
  17. What will you never give up on?
My business – like i said before I always want to give up but I don’t. I worked really hard to get here and I won’t quit easily.
  18. If you could have one superpower – what would it be?
Cleaning with the snap of a finger. I mean who really gets excited to clean… I don’t and truly despise it.
  19. Have you ever had a nickname? What was it?
Yeah, everyone used to call me Red in high school.
  20. What makes you laugh the most?
My daughter Emily says the most hilarious things lately and watching her dance to different music really makes me giggle. Then my husband he’s always been a funny guy doing funny things and thats where she gets it from. day172_jessicamichellephoto_365dayproject.jpg

A Sunset Family Session – Hempstead Lake Park – Long Island Family Photographer

Family session taken at Hempstead Lake Park on Long Island by Jessica Michelle Photo Long Island Family Photographer

I photographed the Lee family at the beautiful Hempstead Lake Park last month and it was just gorgeous! After several reschedules due to this wonderful spring rain we finally had a sunny forecast and could carry on with our session plans. When we stared the session the sun was perfect and golden just starting to set on the day. I couldn’t have asked for better weather than we received for the Lee’s family session. The two girls were completely adorable and gave me some great smiles.

Enjoy!

365 Project – February 2017 – Jessica Michelle Photo

February 2017’s portion of my 365 project. Capturing the everyday life happening around me.

Here is February’s portion of my 365 project – we miss a couple of days due to crazy happenings.

A few big things happened in February, we closed on our house and Edward turned 2! So among renovations and mid-winter break we got a little off track a couple of days. But overall it was a great month!

Enjoy:

365 Project – January’s Outtakes – Jessica Michelle Photo, Port Jefferson, NY

When starting the project I wondered how I would share the images everyday and pretty easily decided with Facebook and Instagram would be the best, but then wondered what about ALL of the other ones that didn’t make the cut for the ONE image I was set to share a day.

When starting the project I wondered how I would share the images everyday and pretty easily decided with Facebook and Instagram would be the best, but then wondered what about ALL of the other ones that didn’t make the cut for the ONE image I was set to share a day. There are so many more that I love but didn’t want to over saturate my feed with outtakes or the likes. So I made the choice to edit them and set them aside each day and that I would then compile them into a post here. So at the end each month I will be adding a full post of outtakes – they are just as funny, sweet, moving and crafted as the others!

Enjoy – January’s Outtakes

365 Project – January 2017 – Jessica Michelle Photo

January 2017’s portion of my 365 project. Capturing the everyday life happening around me.

In December I decided starting January 1st I would embark on a 365 day project. It is where you take a photo everyday and can be anything you want YOUR project to be about. I was inspired to do this because I always feel I’m not doing enough of my own family as I am for everyone else that hires me. Even more so I don’t have very many of my little guy so I am aiming to do more of him though this project.

SO here are the first 31 days (minus the one day I missed) of 2017. Hope that you guys enjoy it – you can keep up with me on a daily basis over on my Instagram and Facebook page too. day1_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday2_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday3_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday4_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday5_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday6_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday7_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday8_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday9_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday10_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday11_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday12_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday13_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday14_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday15_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday16_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday17_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday18_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday19_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday20_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday21_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday23_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday24_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday25_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday26_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday27_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday28_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday29_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday30_jessicamichellephoto_365dayprojectday31_jessicamichellephoto_365dayproject

Favorites from California’s Holiday Sessions 2016 – Jessica Michelle Photo

Just 2 weeks ago I made the trip back to California for a handful of my very favorite clients!

Just 2 weeks ago I made the trip back to California for a handful of my very favorite clients! I was so happy over the summer (yes, SUMMER) when a few of my fav families reached out asking if I was ever going to come back at any chance to do photos. They were sad that I wasn’t there any longer after moving to Long Island to do their yearly holiday photos. After calling a few more clients to see if they too they would be interested in booking in advance if I were to come back – the trip was in the works!

It took me about a month to pick the perfect location, because all of these clients had shot at all my other go to favorites and only had 2 days to do sessions I had to come up with ONE new stand out location. IT was – you might recognize it because I have used it once before for my own little guys first birthday session. The infamous “Cypress Tree Tunnel” in Point Reyes! It was as gorgeous as I remember it being and upon almost everyones arrival they too gasped with joy and amazement!

Here are a few from each family that were my very favorite! Enjoy!

This is what you get when you ask a 3rd grader how many girlfriends he has!

And lastly – My absolute favorite from all the sessions!

I don’t know what it is about this photo but I keep getting chills every time I see it – I LOVE IT. Odessa is a friend and fellow photographer, so she gets when sessions kinda go off the tracks and I really felt like this one was headed there – miss Addie was just not having any part of being in photos with or with out her sister Lulu (who was a total ham).
I am working hard on capturing a little bit more of the lifestyle aspect of each session as well at the posed shots. And this shot just really yells that to me, the “pose”, the light the moody-ness of it all.

It’s a Girl! – Fresh 48 Session – Stony Brook University Hospital, Long Island, NY

I met Nicole at my event back in August at our local baby boutique, Cribs n’ Bibs, and we hit it off right away. She brought in her beautiful daughter Mable and told me she was expecting in October. She love the idea of a fresh 48 session since they were still doing renovations on their house and it would be a mess for a at home session.

We were set and ready for her section date in October and she was not finding out boy or girl until the birth! Which is pretty exciting for everyone. I was away in Nashville doing a newborn session for a childhood friend and only expecting to hear from another mom due the previous week. When I returned home and was able to get to my email I saw that she had emailed me – she had gone into labor on her own and IT WAS A GIRL. I was able to shift some things around on the calendar and get to the hospital the next day. There I met baby Ada – alert and absolutely as cute as a button. Aside from my two very wild children I had never had such an alert baby – let alone one that was 3 weeks early and only 29 hours old! After a little time with just Ada big sister Mable and Dad arrived. I just adore how this session turned out. long-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-yorklong-island-fresh48-lifestyle-newborn-photo-session-stony-brook-hospital-port-jefferson-suffolk-county-new-york

Edward is 1! | Jessica Michelle Photo | Marin County, Ca

Well Edward is now ONE! I really can’t believe it and how quick and blurry it all went by.

WOW – I have just not been keeping up with this blog thing. I make plans to write a post and then life just happens… 2015 ended really busy – thankfully – really really busy. And 2016 started off with me turing 30 ( insert friends clip of joey here ). I’m still not sure of how I feel about that.

Well Edward is now ONE! I really can’t believe it and how quick and blurry it all went by.

We all ventured out to Point Reyes in West Marin to find this fabled cypress tree tunnel and after a little hunting we found it. It was something we had past many times unknowingly when we had driven around out there before. I had dreamed about this setup for months after another photo friend posted a picture of it and that it was in Point Reyes – I just knew it would be the perfect place for Edward’s first birthday pictures. And boy was it.

All of us joined in on the photo taking and of course Edward is just as much of a ham as his big sister… thank goodness! We got some good toothy smiles out of him and some silly photos of Emily too. Heck its such a popular photo destination there was another professional portrait photographer there and offered to get one of all of us. Thank you to who ever you were you saved me the pain of setting up my darn tripod.

Enjoy some goofy kids and celebrate Edward – hurrah!

We also had a little cake smash session with him and his BFF Pressley (more on that in another post – let’s just say it’s Alice and Wonderland themed). The boy just loves cake and probably would have been just like the little boy in Matilda who eats a WHOLE cake in one sitting.

And who doesn’t love some outtakes – thanks to my great assistant… I mean husband… for really doing his best to wrangle these to wild purple minions during the session. Did I mention Edward has been walking for nearly 3 months now… yeah. Life.
